ENGLISH
We come from the United States, which is a long way from Argentina, but we have a lot in common.
In my country, we think going to school and learning is one of the very most important things a young person can do.
I know you think it’s important too, because you go to school twice as long as most kids do -- here in the morning, then to your regular school in the afternoon. So I guess that means you must be twice as wise too, right?
Most parents in my country want to be actively involved in their children’s’ education. I know that Pam and I spent many hours at our kids’ schools talking to their teachers and discussing their progress.
So I am very happy to hear that Apoyo Escolar takes special pride in the fact that your families are involved in your studies here. You are very fortunate to have so much support from caring adults.
After all, you don’t stop learning even after you leave school. As you might have been able to tell, I’m still learning to speak Spanish, and I can tell you it is not easy for me.
Learning will make your life more interesting and more fun. With that in mind, I was happy to bring along today some books for your school. I read many of them myself when I was your age, and I hope that you’ll enjoy them as much as I did.
We also brought two computers that can access the Internet. Your teachers can show you the page just for young people that my Embassy staff designed recently. I hope it opens a new world for you to explore. In fact, it can open the path to every country in this world and to any topic you can think about. I hope you enjoy the adventure it offers.
And lastly, I have some “regalitos” for each of you that I think you’ll enjoy and that you can use in your studies.
Thank you again for your invitation to come and meet you.
